Conditional Inference in Subjective Logic

چکیده
The interpretations of conditionals and conditional inference are often disputed. The classic logic conditional called material implication can easily be proven to be invalid, and the conditional inference rule Modus Ponens represents a tautology that becomes invalid in the face of contrary evidence from realistic scenarios. The foundations of conditionals and conditional inference seem plagued with problems and also seem unable to realistically model causal relationships in the world around us. Now introduce the concepts of ignorance and uncertainty into the framework and it seems to get even fuzzier because the traditional tools of logic or probabilistic conditional inference can no longer be applied. This paper introduces a conditional inference operator that explicitly incorporates ignorance and uncertainty, thereby making it suitable in situations of partial ignorance and imperfect information.

Conditional Reasoning with Subjective Logic
Conditional inference plays a central role in logical and Bayesian reasoning, and is used in a wide range of applications. It basically consists of expressing conditional relationship between parent and child propositions, and then to combine those conditionals with evidence about the parent propositions in order to infer conclusions about the child propositions. While conditional reasoning is ...
متن کاملOn probabilistic inference in relational conditional logics
The principle of maximum entropy has proven to be a powerful approach for commonsense reasoning in probabilistic conditional logics on propositional languages. Due to this principle, reasoning is performed based on the unique model of a knowledge base that has maximum entropy. This kind of model-based inference fulfills many desirable properties for inductive inference mechanisms and is usually...
متن کامل?Logic and Formal Ontology: Is the Final Formal Ontology Possible
Musa Akrami AbstractMany philosophers and logicians have contemplated the relationship between ontology and logic. The author of this paper, working within a Bolzanoan-Husserlian tradition of studying both ontology and logic, considers ontology as the science of the most general features of beings and the most general relations among them. He considers logic as the science concernin...
متن کاملA Critical Examination of Ibn-Sina’s Theory of the Conditional Syllogism
This paper will examine Ibn Sina’s theory of the Conditional Syllogism from a purely logical point of view, and will lay bare the principles he adopted for founding his theory, and the reason why the newly introduced part of his logic remained undeveloped and eventually was removed from the texts of logic in the later Islamic tradition. As a preliminary discussion, this paper briefly examines I...
متن کاملInverting Conditional Opinions in Subjective Logic
Subjective Logic has operators for conditional deduction and conditional abduction where subjective opinions are input arguments. With these operators traditional Bayesian reasoning can be generalised from taking only probabilistic arguments to also taking opinions as arguments, thereby allowing Bayesian modeling of situations affected by uncertainty and incomplete information. Conditional dedu...
